- It’s the most popular roofing material in the U.S. Around 75% of American homes have asphalt shingle roofing. It’s not difficult to understand why when you consider that asphalt shingles are affordable, available in a wide range of colors, and easy to install.
- There are two primary base materials. Organic shingles are the older type of asphalt shingles and are made of cellulose fibers. They are more impact resistant than fiberglass shingles, which are the current standard for asphalt shingles. However, fiberglass shingles are resistant to fire and moisture, plus they last longer.
